Weixin's 'Fenfu' now available for interest-free Apple purchases in China

Weixin, the popular Chinese messaging and payments app operated by Tencent, has integrated its credit service 'Fenfu' into the Apple Store online for purchases within China. The move allows consumers to finance iPhones, Macs, and iPads with up to 24 months of interest-free installments.

This marks the first time a third-party online lending product has offered such a long interest-free period through the Apple Store's WeChat mini-program. Previously, Apple offered its own installment plans, but Fenfu's entry provides consumers with a new, potentially more flexible, payment option.

For example, a standard iPhone model priced at 5,999 yuan would result in monthly payments of 250 yuan over 24 months, with no additional interest or handling fees. The integration aims to lower the barrier to entry for purchasing Apple's premium devices, potentially boosting sales for both Apple and Weixin's financial services.

The partnership highlights the growing influence of Chinese tech giants in facilitating e-commerce transactions and offering integrated financial solutions directly within their platforms. It also signals Apple's willingness to collaborate with local fintech providers to cater to the Chinese market.
